1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children experience mental ill health, and many more of us know and care for people who do.

We know that improved mental health and wellbeing leads to better outcomes for people of all ages and backgrounds including improved physical health, higher life expectancy, better educational achievement and increased employment opportunities.

We also know reduced mental health increases the risk of mental health concerns, self-harm and suicide. People with mental health conditions are often isolated, economically disadvantaged, socially excluded, discriminated against, afraid and alone. We all deserve the opportunities that improved mental health can bring.

How we’re governed

Good governance is fundamental to our success. Our Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall quality, safety and strategic direction of Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster. They meet regularly to discuss, decide and review our strategies and policies and receive reports and updates from our Executive Leadership Team. Our trustees work for Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster voluntarily to make sure we’re doing all we can to ensure that everyone with a mental health problem gets the help they need to recover.

Our approach to governance enables and supports our compliance with the law and relevant regulations. We are registered and regulated by The Charity Commission  to ensure that you can support us with confidence. We are registered with The Fundraising Regulator and have embedded The Code of Fundraising Practice to ensure we protect donors and our vital fundraising work.

Our focus and aims

As a charity we are completely focused on helping those that we are here to serve and the communities in which we live and work. Our culture reflects this and everything works towards fulfilling our vision.

We aim to deliver the best mental health services for those who live and work in the communities we serve, as well as our neighbouring boroughs.

We strive to offer those with mental health problems equitable opportunities to attain the highest quality of life, addressing stigma and discrimination. We believe in and work in ways to support these values:

Over 50% of our staff, volunteers and trustees have their own lived experience of mental health problems helping them better understand the needs of those we’re here to support. Their experiences bring our work to life and make our services and support stand-out.

Our values and culture

We’re open & real: Mental health problems happen to real people in real settings. They are part of everyday life. We keep it real and reach out to anyone who needs help. We always remember that sufferers are people, not their diagnosis.

We’re compassionate & informed: It’s hard if you feel that no one understands. We show that we do. We work in partnership with others to act. We’re always innovating to build on our work and improve outcomes for those we serve.

We’re personal & responsive: Mental health is rooted in personal experience. We know this and care passionately about our cause and everyone affected by it. We are respectful. We listen and we act.

We’re courageous & unstoppable: We talk openly and freely about issues and topics that are hard to discuss. We’re brave when we fight for support for people with mental health problems. We’re fearless when we champion change.

Do you provide the same services in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster?

We are working to deliver the best services in each of the Boroughs that we support. What we are able to do in each area is a reflection of the donations we receive and the services commissioned by Local Authorities, NHS Trusts and other partners. We are working to expand our range of services in each Borough and overtime, aim to deliver the same service in each area.

As a charity, is all the help that you offer people free?

We offer some free services, and many that are free to the people that use them. This is only possible because of the support we receive from individuals, businesses and the public sector. Some of our services are paid for by those that use them. All of the commercial organisations and public sector providers that work with us are charged a fee for our expertise and services.
